This course will teach you about the different elements that affect plant growth. It will teach you about optimum plant nutrition and the different ways of fertilizing for best results. It also contains useful information on the use of the latest herbicides and pesticides. This course forms part of the National Certificate in Plant Production NQF Level 4.

When you have completed this module, you will be able to:

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1
Understand and identify the importance of the climate including aspects such as air pressure, wind, humidity, temperature, frost, rainfall and the importance of keeping weather records.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2
Understand the importance of land preparation and the different tillage systems.
The learner will learn and identify the importance of fertilisation and with the connection of crop establishment.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3

Understand the different crop weeds and pests and the importance of their management.
The learner will be able to identify crop diseases such as parasitic and non-parasitic diseases and the control of these diseases.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4
The learner will be able to understand the importance of lime, potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen and the importance of these elements in the soils as well as different sources of these elements.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5
The learner will be able to understand the importance of the other important elements and trace elements.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 6
Understand and identify the different organic manures and compound fertilisers and their importance.
